Wanda Phillips,
89, of Versailles
passed away at 7 a.m., Wednesday, February 26, 2025 at
the home of her grandson in Lawrenceburg. She was born near Vevay on
May 7, 1935, the daughter of Walter
and Catherine Cleeter Rose. She was married to Lee Phillips on October
18, 1952 and he preceded her in death on June 11, 2009. Survivors
include two daughters Bennilee (Russell) Hornsby of Osgood and Sandy
(Lynn) Works of Bennington; 9 grandchildren and 18
great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her
daughter Marcia, son-in-law Pete Holcomb, her granddaughter Clarissa
Westmeier, her brother Wayne Rose, sister-in-law Fleeta Belle Smith, and
her in-laws Leroy and Bernice Phillips. Wanda's
working career spanned many years with employment at Ripley Publishing,
the Florence Speedway, and US Shoe in Vevay and Osgood. She and Lee
also operated a grocery store for many years from their home on the
north side of Versailles. She enjoyed sewing, playing
cards, doing puzzles, was a very talented upholsterer, and had driven
powderpuff sprint cars at the Osgood Fairgrounds. She especially enjoyed
the company and companionship of her dog Lilly. Wanda was a member of
the Dabney Baptist Church and the Versailles
American Legion Auxiliary. Funeral services will be held on Monday,
March 3
at 10 a.m. at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home
in Versailles with Rev. Sherman Hughes officiating. Burial will be in
the Olive Branch Cemetery near Fairview. Visitation
will be Sunday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the
Versailles American Legion Auxiliary or the Olive Branch Cemetery in
care of the funeral home.
