Warner (Jack) West, 68, of Osgood passed away Thursday, October 22, 2009 at the Norton Hospital in Louisville. He was born in Cincinnati on January 26, 1941 the son of Warner J. and Lena Ketenbrink West. He was married to Janice Johnston on January 19, 1961 and she survives. Other survivors include two sons Matt (Stephanie) West of Versailles and Cory West of Osgood; two daughters Julie Harrington of West Alexandria, Ohio and Dawn (Walter) Fugate of Quercus Grove; 16 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Leonard, and his son-in-law David Harrington. Mr. West was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served in the Marines as a Lance Corporal. He served with the field artillery battalion and received the Good Conduct Medal and was a rifle marksman. Mr. West worked as a journeyman machinist.
He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood, the Knights of Columbus Council #8487, Versailles Lions Club, and was a volunteer with St. Vincent de Paul. He had served with the Madison Township Volunteer Fire Department in Ohio and with the Aurora Life Squad. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, October 26 at 10am at St. John's Catholic Church in Osgood with Father Shawn Whittington officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery at Olean. Visitation will be Sunday from 5pm to 8pm with rosary services at 7:30pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles. Memorials may be given to St. Vincent de Paul or the Knights of Columbus in care of the funeral home.
