Wayne Hull

Wayne Hull, 88, of Versailles, formerly of Holton passed away Friday, December 20, 2013 at the Hanover Nursing Center. He was born in the Hopewell Community near Holton on September 13, 1925 the son of Golden and Velma Waters Hull. He was married to Carole Gortemiller on March 29, 1947 and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2006. Survivors include three sons Merrill (Pat) Hull of Fairfield, Ohio, Jim (Carol) Hull of Waycross, Georgia, and Michael (Babs) Hull of Greenwood; two daughters Cheryll (Jerry) Judge of Hanover and Phyllis Hull of Versailles; 14 grandchildren, 5 step-grandchildren, and 38 great-grandchildren; two sisters Gloria Kitley of Indianapolis and Zuella McNew of Bright. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, his parents, his brothers Keith Hull and Delmar Hull, his sister Phyllis Shaw, and his great-granddaughter Lexie Miller-Ritch. Mr. Hull was a 1943 graduate of Holton High School. He was a veteran of WWII and obtained the rank of Sergeant with the Army Air Force. He served with the 41 Bomb Squadron as a Cryptographic Technician and was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, American Theatre Ribbon, and the WWII Victory Medal. He was a former employee of Arvins in Columbus and retired in 1991 after 36 years with Bohn Aluminum in Greensburg where he worked as a journeyman tool and die maker. Mr. Hull was a former Little League coach, past president of the Osgood Civic Club, and was a former member of the Otter Creek Township Advisory Board. Wayne was a member of the Versailles American Legion and an 80 year member of the Hopewell Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 24 at 10am at the Hopewell Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Barringer and Rev. Bob Harting officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Monday from 4pm to 8pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Home in Versailles and from 9am until time of services Tuesday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Hopewell Baptist Church building fund in care of the funeral home.
