William "Bill" Berry of Versailles passed away Sunday, July 10, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was born in Cumberland, Kentucky on April 2, 1941 the son of Otis and Gladys Sumpter Berry. He was married to Carol Wood in Honolulu, Hawaii on June 7, 1968. Survivors include his wife Carol, two daughters, Robin Ann (Bud) Prather of Holton, Indiana, and Saradee (Joe) Cole of Versailles, Indiana.
Other survivors include five grandchildren; Tyler and Justin Cole, Lance, Jessie, and Samuel Prather, two brothers, Ronald "Ron" Berry of Madison and Dale Berry of Holton, one sister Sue Combs of Florida. He was also preceded in death by his one daughter; Linda Jane, two brothers; David and Danny Berry, and his parents. Mr. Berry was self-employed owner/operator truck driver, and had worked at Wood Farm Supply in Versailles. Mr. Berry served his country in the United States Army 82 Airborne Division out of Ft. Bragg, N.C. for 12 years, including two tours in Vietnam. He achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. He was a member of Cedars Lebanon Church in Dillsboro, Indiana. He was a member of the Versailles American Legion, Leora Weare Post #173.
Funeral services will be held Thursday July 14 at 10 am at Cedars of Lebanon in Dillsboro with Pastor Charlie Hill officiating. Burial will be in Cross Plains Methodist cemetery with full military rites. Visitation will be Wednesday 4 to 7 at the funeral home and from 9am until time of services at the church. Memorials may be given to the Good News Club in care of the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home.
