William R. Tindle, 88, of Elrod passed away Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the Margaret Mary Community Hospital in Batesville. He was born near Vevay in Switzerland County on September 22, 1925 the son of John and Eleanor Gieske Tindle. He was married to Iona Faye Patrick on July 10, 1953 and she survives. Other survivors include one sister Marsha Lamson of Vevay; brother-in-law Thomas Fehrman of Dillsboro, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sister Donna Jean Fehrman.
Mr. Tindle was a graduate of Aurora High School and worked for 32 years as a maintenance supervisor for the I & M Electric Power Plant in Lawrenceburg. He also was a veteran of the Korean War where he attained the rank of Sergeant in the Army and received the Korean Service Medal with one bronze star. Mr. Tindle was also a farmer and a member of the Versailles Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 25 at 11am at the Versailles Baptist Church with Rev. Mike Cantrell officiating. Burial will be in the Washington Cemetery at Elrod with military graveside rites by the Versailles American Legion. Visitation will be Sunday from 4pm to 6pm at the Stratton-Karsteter Funeral Home in Versailles and from 10am until time of services Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to the Diabetes Foundation, Washington Cemetery, or the Versailles Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
